Internship Opportunities For local and International Students

Tamale Teaching Hospital is the largest medical facility in the Central Region of Ghana. Last year, the hospital provided healthcare for more than 100,000 outpatients and admitted just under 10,000.

The Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) is comprised of 11 wards, 12 clinics, and a Physiotherapy Centre. Established as a Regional Hospital in 1998, in less than 20 years, the Minister of Health upgraded it to a Teaching Hospital. The transformation from a Regional to a Teaching Hospital is directly connected to the inception of the School of Medical Sciences at the UDS. Medical, Nursing, Public health students from the UDS and Nursing Schools are trained at the hospital. The hospital has established strong ties with international volunteer medical groups. Recently, Japanese medical experts helped the hospital update it Renal and Dialysis Unit. Annually Operation Smile, an international NGO from the United States, spends a week performing cleft lip and palate surgeries. Presently, the Apollo Hospital Network from India has agreed to provide training and continuing education opportunities for the medical and administrative staff.

Over the years, TTH’s Individual Attachment Program which has attracted a steady stream of international students pursuing careers in medicine, nursing and public health.
