Dr. Abubakari Bawa Abdulai Assumes Office as Acting CEO of Tamale Teaching Hospital

Dr. Abubakari Bawa Abdulai has officially assumed office as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital following his appointment by the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.

Dr. Abdulai brings to the role over two decades of distinguished service with a wealth of experience in health administration, medical radiology, and academia. Until his appointment, he served as the Director of University Health Services at the University for Development Studies (UDS). He also headed the Radiology Sub-BMC at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to advancing healthcare delivery.

  • Dr. Abdulai was a Senior Lecturer and head of Radiology Department at the University for Development Studies, an accomplished medical doctor and specialist radiologist. His early leadership experience includes serving as General Secretary of the UDS Medical and Health Sciences Students Association from 2000 to 2001 and Medical Director at 3MRS Clinic, Sunyani (2008 – 2010).

Dr. Abdulai’s academic credentials include:

  • Health Administration and Management (HAM), GIMPA School of Administration (2016)
  • Membership of the Ghana College of Physicians (MGCP) Faculty of Radiology (2014)
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB. ChB, 2006) and Bachelor of Science in Human Biology (2002) from the University for Development Studies.

He is a member of several professional bodies, including:

  • Ghana Medical Association (GMA)
  • Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS)
  • Ghana Association of Radiologists (GAR)
  • European Society of Radiology (ESR) (Associate Member)
  • Associate Member, Radiology Society of North America (RSNA)
