The Ghana Medical Trust Fund has donated five oxygen concentrators, including one mobile oxygen concentrator, to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Tamale Teaching Hospital. The donation forms part of efforts to strengthen newborn care and improve access to lifesaving oxygen therapy.
The donation, made possible through the support of Rikair Company Limited, is expected to enhance the hospital's capacity to provide critical care for newborns requiring oxygen support while improving emergency response and patient transfers within the facility.
According to Obuobia Darko-Opoku, the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, the five oxygen concentrators will augment the NICU's existing equipment, enabling healthcare professionals to deliver timely and effective oxygen therapy to vulnerable infants. The mobile oxygen concentrator will also provide vital support during emergencies and facilitate the safe transfer of patients between units within the hospital. She noted that the demand for neonatal critical care continues to increase, making investments in essential medical equipment crucial to improving survival outcomes for newborns.
Speaking on the significance of the donation, Madam Obuobia Darko-Opoku emphasised that partnerships with the private sector remain instrumental in strengthening healthcare delivery across the country, particularly in underserved areas.
She expressed profound appreciation to Rikair Company Limited for its generous contribution, describing the partnership as a meaningful step towards improving healthcare services for Ghana's youngest and most vulnerable patients in Northern Ghana.
Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Abubakari Bawah Abdulai, expressed appreciation to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund and Rikair Company Limited. According to Dr. Abubakari Bawah, the donated items are critical to neonatal care and will enhance the NICU's capacity to respond to emergencies.
The donation forms part of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund's ongoing commitment to supporting health institutions with critical medical equipment aimed at enhancing quality healthcare delivery and saving lives.
