HeFRA ASSESSES TAMALE TEACHING HOSPITAL FOR REACCREDITATION

Management of the Tamale Teaching Hospital received a delegation from the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA). The visit formed part of an assessment process aimed at reaccrediting the hospital.

In his welcome address, the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Abubakari Bawah Abdulai, emphasized the importance of the accreditation exercise to the operations and continued growth of the hospital. According to him, reaccreditation remains essential in enabling the facility to effectively deliver on its mandate as one of Ghana’s leading referral and teaching hospitals. “We need the accreditation to be able to support us in delivering on our mandate,” he stated.

The CEO expressed confidence in the assessment process, noting that the evaluation would be conducted fairly and in accordance with established professional standards and regulatory requirements. He also commended staff members for their openness and commitment throughout the process, stating that their frankness demonstrated “our collective commitment to rebuilding the hospital.”

The assessment formed part of HeFRA’s mandate to ensure that healthcare institutions across the country maintain the required standards in the delivery of quality healthcare services.

At the end of the exercise, an exit conference was held between the HeFRA delegation and the management of the hospital. The team from HeFRA, led by its Deputy Registrar, Prof. Vida Nyagre Yakong, briefed management on their observations. Prof. Yakong indicated that a comprehensive report on the assessment would be submitted to management for further action and consideration.

Over all, the brief on key performance indicators so far reflected a positive outlook for the hospital, suggesting encouraging progress in several operational and service delivery areas.

The reaccreditation process is expected to further strengthen the hospital’s commitment to quality healthcare delivery, patient safety, and institutional excellence.
