The health Promotion Unit of the Public Health Department has held a sensitization programme to raise awareness among staff about Mpox (Monkeypox), a viral disease of growing public health concern.
The session brought together various professionals and frontline staff to enhance their understanding of the disease, particularly its surveillance, diagnosis, and prevention strategies.
Leading the programme was Madam Mohammed Fatima, Head of the Health Promotion Unit. She was assisted by Mr. Bawa Danlaadi, Head of Public Health Informatics, Dr. Gyasi Razark, Head of Laboratory and Mr Gabriel Kyalepuo of the Disease Control Unit. Together, the facilitators provided critical insights into Mpox surveillance and sample management, outlined the hospital's laboratory response protocols, and emphasized the role of risk communication and health promotion in preventing disease spread.
Participants were taken through key topics including case reporting, sample collection, contact tracing, vaccination, and community engagement strategies. The sensitization forms part of the hospital's preparedness efforts to ensure that staff are well-informed and equipped to respond appropriately to any suspected cases.
